Biratnagar: As government media apparatuses take new course as per historic political decentralisation and government’s focus on development, Gorkhapatra Corporation is planning production, expansion and newsroom transformation.
Plans are afoot to start printing of the nation’s 118 year old newspaper from outside the capital for the first time. This move will be realised in Biratnagar, the capital of State 1.
Efforts are currently underway to enhance the quality of the Gorkhapatra, its sister publication The Rising Nepal and Muna, Yuba Manch and Madhupark magazines. For this purpose, an orientation programme for the district correspondents concluded here on Tuesday.
At the extensive orientation event, Executive Chairman of Gorkhapatra Corporation Krishna Murari Bhandari outlined the plan of production expansion in Biratnagar which received word of support from State 1 Chief Minister Sher Dhan Rai and State Minister for Internal Affairs, Law and Communication Hikmat Karki.
Executive Chairman Bhandari held talks with Chief Minister Rai on Tuesday towards reaching a deal between the corporation and the State government for the planned Biratnagar production of the daily by adding two pages dedicated to the State related news in the Biratnagar edition.
Minister Karki, speaking at the inauguration of the orientation, said that the State government was positive and would extend every support to all endeavors of Gorkhapatra. He emphasised enhancement of quality in the publications of Gorkhapatra Corporation and not to hesitate to facilitate and equip the staff members for this effort.
The Minister expressed his special interest in GC’s Muna magazine for children and suggested concerned editors to add its charm through introduction of colour picture stories.
Minister Karki asked the GC journalists to show their boldness to expose weaknesses of ministers, if any. “Constructive reporting on the government’s drawbacks always helps overcome lapses and shortcomings,” he added.
